Year of the Cougar

Now that 2009 is preparing to wrap up, Newsweek has deemed it 'the year of the Cougar'. While evidence of this is present in television shows like ABC's Cougartown and various celebrity relationships that the media has obsessed over recently, Newsweek concludes that by this time next year, the Cougar craze will exist no more.

However, an increasing amount of sociologists beg to differ. Based on recent studies they say there is a real "demographic shift" in the marriage of men and women 10-15 years their senior. This shift is based on new choices and the redefinition of of suitable mate, from women in today's society. No longer is it necessary for women to find a mate that is older, more educated with a larger income that's willing to take care of them. Times are changin' and cougars are independent, successful women redefining tradition...not just sleezy, divorced and sex deprived as hollywood portrays.
